To design and produce the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair staff wardrobe, NO Uniform took the client on a nine-month creative journey. During this time, Nicholas Oakwell, Creative Director and Founder of NO Uniform, recognised Mandarin Oriental’s identity in a way that felt ‘organically Mayfair’.
“Every stitch of this collection tells the narrative of a contemporary direction for this Mandarin Oriental hotel,” said Oakwell. “It has been a pleasure to have worked with Susanne Hatje, one of London’s most progressive General Managers, who put her trust in us to create these garments to be much more than uniforms; they are masterpieces.”
Mandarin Oriental Mayfair had to echo the same tone as its sibling property, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park which, for decades, has defined the crisp luxury tone in Knightsbridge while standing – and remaining – as one of London’s finest luxury addresses.
While Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has undoubtedly achieved ‘Grand Dame’ status, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, being a younger hotel, could afford to push design, architectural and fashion boundaries.
NO Uniform’s design department kept the property’s brand identity threaded throughout all touchpoints of the wardrobe, which comprises of 64 styles in total.
The collection is a nod to Mandarin Oriental’s Asian heritage with a contemporary twist – each look throughout the hotel shares the same design language but has its own identity. Bold colourways seen in the doorman and concierge uniforms, for example, evoke a strong yet inviting scene, while playful floral motifs from the hostess and female reception dresses, conjure up moments of decoration, art and craft.
