For Fontainebleau Miami and Las Vegas, the brief was to honour the hotel’s rich history while appealing to a new generation of guests. We aimed to give a nod to the past, while pushing the design forward into a modern era.

Drawing inspiration from the hotel’s French origins, we researched archives from the original chateau in France. These references, including ceramics, pottery, and stonework, informed the jacquard fabric used in the suiting throughout the casino. The fabrics were fully custom-made to reflect this historical influence.

One of the key design elements was inspired by the many shades of blue that make up the Miami Beach landscape. Nicholas Oakwell, Creative Director, was captivated by the array of blues during his visit to the hotel. This influence is woven throughout the collection, earning the title “50 shades of blue.”

We also integrated the hotel’s branding into the designs. The bow tie motif, which was originally taken from the marble floor in Miami, was abstracted and applied across multiple uniforms. You can see this in the guest arrival uniforms, where the bow tie design is present in the shirting. It was also used in the bomber jackets and suiting for the reception team, valet, and doorman, expanding on the same theme.

The casino floor has a baroque-inspired design, reflecting the original Fontainebleau style. For the central bar, we went with a timeless look, using classic white waistcoats, white shirts, and white bow ties, all made from the same cotton pique fabric. The cocktail waitresses were dressed in gold, linking them to the metal material elements seen throughout the casino’s design.

In some of the restaurant spaces, we introduced deep claret red velvet smoking jackets and tuxedos, emphasising the luxurious and rich atmosphere.

The entire process, from design to delivery, took 18 months. It started with strong Miami influences and evolved into a sophisticated European-inspired concept, perfectly suited to Fontainebleau’s prestigious heritage and location.
